Extra-Ordinary Fashion Designing Course & Top Fashion Schools

Despite the advancement the fashion industry has observed in the last decade, many people in India still seem to consider fashion designing as the most obvious and perhaps the only career option in the industry. Glamour, clothes, models, page 3 parties etc. are things that immediately cross people’s minds when one talks of the fashion industry. While those are integral elements, there is much more to do and learn in the sector. Apart from the most obvious fashion designing course, fashion institutes offer courses in leather design, textile design, fashion communication, accessory design, jewellery design and manufacturing, footwear design to name a few. And while the courses may seem like a piece of cake, they are highly demanding which require students to be absolutely committed, passionate, and disciplined.

From an apparel and/or accessory designer, fashion editor, fashion consultant to a celebrity stylist, merchandiser, retail expert- there are so many options you could choose from if only you have a strong inclination towards the role as well as creative ideas and ability to put them on paper or computer. In fact, with so many fashion applications in the virtual market today, the fashion industry is expanding even further to encompass a variety of roles that could not be even imagined of earlier.

However, it is imperative that you complete your fashion education from one of the top fashion schools in the desired field first. Rigorous training would help you identify your strengths and work on your weaknesses. It will also help bring out your creative side and give you a push in the right direction. The detailed courses would ensure that your basics are in place and help you build upon those basics. Fashion education from a top school is challenging and you will have to prove your mettle to not only get good opportunities in the future, but to even survive in the fashion school. The road to success in fashion would be eventful and difficult, but in the end you would realise that it was worth it!

Advantages of Footwear & Textile design development institutes

Shoes are as important as clothes and jewelry. You might never have noticed but you own a great number and variety of shoes in your wardrobe- from flip flops and sports shoes to bellies and stilettoes.

It is for this reason that footwear designing courses have become as popular as fashion designing and textile design courses. A footwear designing institute designs all the types of shoes for providing utmost style and comfort to the people.

And thanks to institutes like footwear design & development institute, which teach the students to never compromises on style to design a durable and comfortable product. Moreover, they make students proficient in different types and subtypes of shoes.

A sport shoes category, for example contains several subtypes of shoes on the basis of its usage. Here’s a list.

Affordable Brand Management Courses & Fashion Designing Courses

A career in fashion is not as easy as the film and television industry might believe you to think. There are several rings one must jump through before they get to a good and successful position.

Yet the fashion industry is so unpredictable and unstable that even if one does reach a high position they can never be sure of their stability and always need to come up with more unique and better ideas. The first thing to before anything else, is if one has a keen interest in joining fashion industry then the first thing one can do is join one of the many fashion designing courses available. But if one is not necessarily interested in fashion designing per say, then there are also plenty of other course as well.

There are plenty of other areas in the fashion industry only that one can try for if they are not into fashion per say, one of them being brand management. Basically what brand management includes is the ability to properly manage a particular brand. The main aim of a good brand manager should be to create a lasting impression in the public's mind about the brand and improve product sales and market value.  There are some brand management courses available in fashion institutes only or there are even private institutes which give short term courses too.

Here are a few tips one should keep in mind to become a good brand manager:

1. Good Analytical Skills:

A good brand manger should have good analytical skills in that they should be able to analyze the market trends and create strategies which will best promote the brand and increase sales.

2. Ability to Predict Future Trends:

Now this is not about being a psychic, but it is mainly about having a good eye and creative imagination in what might come into fashion at a later stage.

3. Interpersonal Skills:

One should be good with people and communication since a brand manger is almost a face of the brand. The brand manger has to be able to put up a good picture of the brand in question so that not only customers but also other clients or investors would be interested in it.

Bags Every Woman Should Own

So, I really forgot to talk about one major power bomb that we women have, it is some sort of our magic weapon that stays always near us, helping us in the direst of situations; it holds the solution to everything, It is our second home. Those brand management courses always talk about its importance for ladies. Guessed already? Oh well, no prices for guessing, it’s our bags! While they carry anything from cosmetics to huge laptops, from pepper spray to those expensive cologne; a girl’s bag is her treasure; no doubt, you are not allowed to touch it. But then again, one can never get enough of bags, can you? I can’t, so let’s study the type of bags every woman should own:

•    Classic cross body bags:

The cross body bag is a must-have because it's so damn comfortable and manageable. Imagine the bliss of hands-free shopping, train commuting, carrying coffee easily down the street; really, the possibilities are endless. If you expect to have your hands full on a certain day, you need one of these.

•    Structure Tote:

So, this is your typical sophisticated bag that you carry to office. Choose the sizes wisely of you intent on carrying the laptop, files or just tabs. Being women I know your bag has to be your necessity kit for “special” situation, so a tote is the best choice. Classy, sophisticated, well-structured and spacious!

•    The Weekender:

You plan to spend the weekend at your best friend’s place but can’t fit everything into your cross body bag, while your tote is just too sophisticated for that? Instead of carrying 2-3 bags, The weekender comes to your rescue, these are big bags which are the perfect choice when planning a short trip or a short stay and will hold everything from pajamas to make up kit.

Myths About Advertising and Branding

I keep getting a lot of questions from students aspiring to join brand management courses. Most of them are vague in their doubts as they keep listening to a lot of things from ‘people’ who in fact know lesser than them! These people are of no help, and end up confusing these budding advertising professionals. To all those, who share a dream to make it big in the world of advertising, the first thing you need to do is, tell myth from reality. There are lots of such myths which might sway your decision.

Here is the list of a few common myths (and truths) of the advertising world. You can check on them, shun the second thoughts, and be sure of your decision to join the sphere of branding and advertising.

Advertising is an unethical profession

No, unlike the belief, advertising is not selling products regardless of its quality. It is NOT selling in the first case. The purpose of advertising is different.  And trust me; it does not promote the idea of selling products which are not worth it. There are strict guidelines regarding that. Making claims which cannot be fulfilled are directly questionable under the CPA. So chill, it is much more than selling!

It is difficult to start

None of the fields provide you with an easy start.  But there is nothing exceptionally tough about advertising. It is common for even interns make their way right up to the top through the years. Creativity is an asset of an individual. It depends on how you employ your asset.

It is a glamorous and fun-filled career

What exactly is the point of criticism for a ‘glamorous’ job is beyond my comprehension. The definition of the same is, quite subjective. The perception of advertising as a fun-filled job is a big fat myth. Sure there is a lot of freedom in the workplaces in terms of expressing creativity, but that doesn’t mean it is always a party! There are nights of toil and hard work behind each ad campaign, little known by people. People don’t get paid for doing nothing, right?

Fashion –An Eye to the Creative Mind

While the layman’s idea of careers in fashion may be that of a model or a fashion designer, the field of fashion isn’t quite as limited or shallow as people seem to think it is.

In fact, I’ve seen many a people raise an eyebrow if they hear about people going to fashion schools. Those nagging old ‘aunties’ also seem to think that people go into the fashion industry because they didn’t have the grades to make it to med school or law school. Well, to all of the condescending folks out there, fashion isn’t all about pretty clothes and skinny girls, fashion is ubiquitous, whether you like it or not!

So you see, the scope of fashion isn’t to become as anorexic as possible, the fashions industry is booming, strong and hard. And careers in fashion can let you do a lot of things that a regular 9-5 job won’t.

For starters, fashion schools are absolute hubs of creativity and talent. While rocket science just needs the right aptitude, fashion needs creativity, artistic abilities, originality, uniqueness, an understanding of patterns, colours and hues… In essence, fashion is an insight into creative mind.

And if you manage to break into the fashion industry (a hard feat in itself), then you get to meet scores of people. While any profession will of course enable you to meet new people, in fashion, everyone’s a bit crazy an creative and quirky. You will be surrounded by brilliant minds that think outside the box, walking that thin line between madness and genius (and of course, sticking to the genius side).

You will get to travel, and see the world. You will get to create novel ideas. You will live with a constant adrenalin buzz. Fashion is a vision, a vision into the future, the past, and the present. And don’t you dare let any of them old aunties tell you otherwise!

Branding and Its Comprehensive Process- Part (1)

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
― Coco Chanel

Being a girl, it is not rare to find oneself ogling at the other girl’s ‘Prada” or her “Gucci”, it is not very soon that you realise, you had your mouth wide open all through the time this tall super rich women, with her huge “Gucci” bag walked past you, so what is this infatuation for? Is it for the Gucci bag? Is it the way the girl carries it? Is it because she is richer than you, or simply because it looks super good on her? This is what one would call “branding”, what one would call “advertising”, something that makes a product look good. A High end luxury purse would be branded or advertised by probably a high end beautiful model, similarly a superbike would be advertised by a rusty looking..Six pack abs physique model. This shows us how important branding of a product is, So without wasting time, let’s start with the importance of branding and advertising.

Brand management course starts with a comprehensive knowledge of your “brand”. So, what is a brand then?

A brand represents who your company is and what it stands for. This includes the name, logo, messaging, merchandise, design, and any other feature that identifies your company and its products and service and makes it different from others. With your brand you are developing a promise, conveying the message of this promise and then maintaining it.

Brand management is the science of crafting, molding and sustaining a brand. This means defining the brand, positioning the brand, and delivering the brand value constantly. Branding creates customer commitment to your business. A robust brand differentiates its products from the competitors and gives your business a leg up on the others, allowing you to increase sales and grow your business.

Brand management includes handling both the noticeable and intangible characteristics of a brand. When it comes to product brands, this includes the product itself, packaging, pricing, availability, etc. With service brands, tangibles include customers’ experience. The intangibles include emotional connections and expectations with products and services. For eg: The Way Tata Salt has come up with the idea of “Desh ka Namak”. Branding also involves assembling a blend of the right marketing campaigns i. e advertising to create and reinforce your identity. If done right, you can even create a brand that is able to break through the crowd and create brand loyalty.

Advertising is to do with persuasion. It is commonly accepted that the function of advertising is to persuade people to buy something.

The Closet Fashionista's Dream

Been wrapping your mother’s sarees and dupattas around yourself to look like a sultry Indian beauty or even a Greek goddess since age five? Loved fancy dress competitions at school because it gave you a chance to dress up and put on some of mommy’s make up? Keeping up with the trend, going vintage, retro, traditional, classical or just cool and funky? Sketching or doodling designs mindlessly during classes, with a ‘rough copy’ full of doodles, drawings and designs on faceless models? Secretly enjoyed the guilty pleasure of the idea of making it as a fashion designer?

If you answered yes to the aforementioned questions, then you clearly have a keen eye for fashion. Even though you aren't supposed to care what people think of you, you do just a little bit, don’t you? Even if you just spring out of bed and rush out to catch a movie or whatever it be, your wardrobe comes apart while you search for the right outfit and team it up with the perfect accessories. That cool and casual, I-don’t-really-care-what-I’m-wearing look that people think you carry off so well isn’t really what it means. Being effortlessly chic is quite the moronic oxymoron, isn't it? Some effort is always dispensed, subtly disguised, yes, but definitely not effortless altogether.

If the next Coco Channel is what you want to be, then sign up for the range of courses offered by the international institute of fashion design, a premier fashion institute based in New Delhi.

Offering a variety of fashion design courses that include Fashion Design, Apparel Manufacturing, Knitwear Design and Technology, Garment Manufacturing and Technology etc., international institute of fashion design has attained the status of a trendsetting fashion institute. Not only does the institute impart a top-tier education, but it has also shaped the careers of many students. So to all you fashionistas out there turn your amateur, doodled design work to a professional reality!

Let's Go the Fashion Way!

It’s been a common observation that fashion designers are creative individuals who revel in ultra-luxurious lifestyles and are surrounded with celebrities, models, and entertainment biggies. While it is true that fashion is a lucrative industry, it also depends on how determined, sincere and courageous an individual is in taking challenges and transforming those into positions of strength that help them achieve lofty tops.

On one hand when being surrounded with celebs & models and hobnobbing is part of the job within this industry, the career of a fashion designer is lot more demanding. If merely thinking of enrolling in fashion design schools would have brought in fame, every other aspirant would have nested in fashion world flawlessly.

For the reason there's a big difference in aspiring to be a fashion designer and being one. If you’re keen on being a part of this rewarding arena, or if you've just completed a fashion designing course and are looking forward to embark on a new journey, it's better to dive in deep and familiarize with the “ins and outs” of the fashion world.

  • Skills: despite being passionate and sincere towards fashion designing, it has to be remembered that technicalities cannot be separated from the profession. You should be well inured about basic production, fabrics and marketing concepts. These skills are a must-have and can be acquired through quality training and conditioning.
  • Education: Fashion schools of repute like AAFT would help you hone and polish skills and add colors to your aspirations. A good institute goes a long way in shaping out your career path and provides you with the ability to transform your dreams into reality.

Apart from considering the couple of aforesaid aspects, remember, creativity does not wait for a perfect moment, it fashions its very own perfect moments out of ordinary ones.
